After
19 months of research and development, the amazing
new planetary Blu- Majesty Tourbillon will astonish the
watch-interested public. Its innovative technical solutions allow for a
perfect incorporation of the tourbillon system into blu- Planet, the
timepiece that is perhaps the blu- source du temps collection’s
flagship model.
For quite some time, Bernhard Lederer has been deliberating the creation
of his own tourbillon. Right from the beginning it was clear to him that
the blu- Planet system would be the only one able to offer the unique
look characteristic of all blu creations.
Lederer
had been deliberating the tourbillon idea for more than three years, and
a meeting with the independent engineer Willy Meier kicked off the
fascinating blu-Majesty Tourbillon adventure. With Lederer's brilliant
designing and prototype expertise and Meier’s knowledge of the
industry manufacturing, the project was successfully sent underway. |

What
exactly is so new about blu- Majesty Tourbillon
First and foremost,blu-Majesty
Tourbillon is different from any other watch in its appearance.
But almost equally as important, this tourbillon is not
a karussel-style tourbillon so in evidence throughout the watch industry
today. It is a half-flying tourbillon, meaning it is a so-called flying
tourbillon with an opposite support, making it visible without
obstruction but retaining stability. A karussel is driven by the third
wheel, whereas a true tourbillon is driven by the fourth wheel (which
also drives the second hand), making it far more delicate.
The
blu- Majesty Tourbillon turns on three separate axes, beginning with the
dial that revolves around its own axis in a twelve-hour period. Inside
that mechanism, there is a one-hour tourbillon, the cage of which
simultaneously acts as the extra support for the flying one-minute
tourbillon whose cage contains the escape system and which is sent on
its twelve-hour orbit around the dial.
In
other words, the blu- Majesty Tourbillon contains three cages fixed
along three parallel axes. A real eye-catcher is that two of the three
axes are linearly arranged, keeping them on the same plane:
The half-flying one-minute tourbillon is literally placed inside the
flying one-hour tourbillon.
And both of these are arranged eccentrically within the third flying
tourbillon, one of a twelve-hour variety.
The
movement was designed and assembled entirely in blu- source du temps’s
workshops; blu – source du temps collaborated on the extensive
realization of the project intensively with Meier and his team. The fact
that blu – source du temps was the driving engine behind the project
allowed all parties involved to keep all the technical needs of this very
special triple cages tourbillon system in the forefront right from
the beginning. |

An
important characteristic of this movement: its source of energy
The
extra energy needed to drive all of these delicate functions is supplied
by twin, serially operating spring barrels.
These
are placed right on the underside of the base plate, utilizing its
entire surface, space that is normally reserved for the escapement and
gear train. The escapement is now placed within the cage of the
one-minute tourbillon, and the gears have been positioned in a more
linear arrangement, necessary to move all of the tourbillons as well as
the rotate the dial. These functions are logically all located on the
dial side of the movement. All in all, a pretty perfect setup that can
easily incorporate an extra spring barrel for the extra power and
stability needed.
More stability and aesthetics with a larger balance
Another element that sets blu-
Majesty Tourbillon apart from the rest is the size of its balance
wheel. The oscillating golden wheel is visible slowly and elegantly
swinging in the large tourbillon cutaway with a diameter of 15.6 mm.
Choosing a lower speed of 2 oscillations per second was done to
purposefully retain the aesthetics of the entire object and keep it
visible, emphasizing the harmony between the timepiece’s functions and
its proportions.
blu does not chase radio-controlled precision, but rather prefers to
retain the details necessary for deep personal emotion and cogitation.
Returning
to 2 Hertz is like coming back to the source of time
and bringing out the celebration

is not at the center of our lives – we are. |
